[CPT-UK] November 28th Lobby of Government and financial matters

Hi everyone!

 

There are two things I want to highlight in this email.

 

1)     The Lobby of Parliament on the 28th of November: 

                                                             i.      CPT-UK is a member of the ENOUGH! coalition, and as such I'd encourage you to take a look at this material, and consider lobbying your MP about the situation in Israel/Palestine.  It isn't as scary as it sounds. :-)  If you'd like any more information, please do contact me.                                                            ii.      We will have a gathering the evening before (November 27th) at the London Mennonite Centre (directions here http://www.menno.org.uk/directions).  It will start at 7pm with a bring and share supper, and continue with a chat about the work of CPT, and the lobby the next day.

2)     CPT-UK finances:

We have been investigating for the last year or so the possibility of becoming a registered charity, but it continues to not look terribly optimistic. In the meantime, if you'd like to donate to CPT while getting some of the tax bonus bit, you can do so through Charities Aid Foundation (CAF).  The website is: http://www.cafonline.org/

                                                             i.      One of our members has paid the initial validation fee.  This means we can now send CAF cheques to CPT in Chicago and reclaim the tax as in the case of a UK charity.  

                                                           ii.      Each individual donation though, demands a £20 deduction, so it is only useful in the case of large donations.

                                                        iii.      As far as we understand, you will need to email CAF with a request to transfer a donation.  You will then be asked to return a form certifying that you agree to the 20 pounds deduction.

 

I hope this all makes sense!  If you would like further clarification on any of this, please do email me.  I hope your peace work in your own community, whatever form it takes, is bearing fruit.  And I look forward to seeing some of you (or all of you!?) on November 27th and 28th!

Dear All 

Please find enclosed the lobby pack for the 28th November. It mainly includes practical information about the day and some useful reading from the latest UN reports.

It also includes a feedback form. Please note that it is important that any-one lobbying their MP in their constituency fills this in as well. Once collated, the feedback will be circulated to the participating organisations.

This will be sent to every-one who registers before the event and an updated version will be available on the day. Please add to your websites if possible
