Dear friends,

I'm pleased to be able to report that we had a successful first CPT UK
gathering in Bradford this past weekend. For a thorough report from Simon
Barrow of Ekklesia see:

http://www.ekklesia.co.uk/content/news_syndication/article_06066cptuk.shtml

During the final session, we explored what the next steps for CPT in the UK
might be. I was asked to write up the proposals and questions that came out
of the meeting and send them out to the CPT UK list. You can find them
below. The idea is that those interested in being involved with CPT UK can
choose which ones most interest or inspire them. I've set up an on-line poll
where you can vote on the proposals you support most here:

http://www.cptuk.org.uk/new/?q=node/11

The poll only allows you to vote for one option, but if you want to vote for
more than one just email me your extra choices and I can manually add your
vote (or go to a different computer and vote again). The poll will be open
for two weeks.

After the poll is done, we'll explore the possibility of creating an
enabling group of 3 or 4 people to look at how to take the 2 or 3 most
popular proposals forward. Here is a further explanation of the seven areas
as transcribed during our meeting by Jonathan Blakeborough

Recruitment and retention of CPTers and delegates
- Networking with support base
- New levels of involvement?

Culture and identify for CPT in the UK
- translating vision, logo, identity from North American context?

New relationships with partners or sponsors?
- are there UK organisations that would like to sponsor CPT?
- collaboration with Fellowship of Reconciliation UK?

How is CPT UK be involved in broader CPT decision making?
- How much autonomy do we have to make our own decisions?
- How are UK donations and finances handled?
- At what point do we need to do accounting for ourselves?

Training in the UK
- When? Where? How?
- How much should we collaborate with other training programs like Peace
School, Turning the Tide or CHIPS?

A focus for CPT here in the UK?
- Immigration issues
- Fear of terrorism
- violence reduction in CPT communities
- importance of a British project in showing CPT peacemaking/hands on
distinctive

Challenging churches about violence
- vision for peace
- education
- What is CPT's specific contribution
- reaching out to evangelicals

New models for peacemaking
- grand strategy vs. piece meal

If you have any questions, comments or changes, please feel free to email
me.

Sincerely,
Tim Nafziger
