Hello friends,

A CPT reservist, Tricia Gates Brown, is coordinating and editing a book about the hostage crisis in Iraq that will be published by Herald Press, a Mennonite Publishing house. The book will not be primarily focused on the experience of the Tom, Harmeet, Norman and Jim, but on the “ripple effect’’ or waves of action/engagement/experience that were instigated by their captivity. It will be a collection of shorter pieces (5-15 pages) by many contributors.

We (Tim and Christy) have been asked to put together 2 different chapters in regards to what was happening in the UK. One chapter will be about the media response and our response and another about the many vigils or acts that people throughout the UK participated in. Obviously there are many small events and vigils that we know very little about. However we would like to collect some of these stories to be able to bring them together to get a broad picture of ways in which people were moved to act throughout the 4 month crisis. This is where we need your help.

First, would you have be able to share one or two stories of what you may have done, or what you saw happening in your area. These stories can be anything from vigils or individuals setting candles in windows. Even if you don’t have a long story, if you would just write to us to mention a vigil that happened that you are aware of, that would be great.

Second, do you have thoughts or reflections or anecdotes about interactions with the media during the crisis? Was there a particular story you saw that was well done or very poorly done?

Thank you, we look forward to hearing your stories. For stories in relation to vigils and actions please send to
Christy at Christy at clarityfacilitation.com
and for stories about media please send to Tim at nafziger at gmail.com.

If you could send your stories by August 15, that would be helpful.

Peace,
Christy
