Dear CPT UK
For several years, I have wanted to join in the work of Christian Peacemaker
Teams and see myself joining alongside my fiancé, Tim Nafziger, supporting
each other in CPT in our life work together. After some conversation and
thinking it through, I have submitted an application for a brief CPT
delegation to Israel Palestine this spring (30 March - 11 April). However,
there are currently not enough people to make it viable and this is the only
time that suits me in the foreseeable future. We are looking for additional
applicants to join us for an amazing delegation.
As I have thought about the possibility of going on a delegation recently,
Norman Kember's humble words have expressed the rationale for me. "It's a
simple gesture of peace to people in a conflict-ridden land. I'll hear some
stories and pass them on." Like him, I don't expect to make much difference,
but this is a step in a life direction of peacemaking and it is the entry
point to determining what further involvements I may have in CPT.
Here in the United Kingdom, interest in CPT is raising through mobilizing
CPT UK and public awareness. Following the publicity of the CPT hostage
situation in Iraq, it seems good to follow that up with sharing about the
mission of CPT in groups with open ears. You can contribute to these efforts
by coordinating presentation opportunities for me, or with me if you are
interested in the trip and we could collaborate on these efforts.
Here are some details from the CPT Website, a short description of what
we'll be doing:
MIDDLE EAST, Israel/Palestine Based the first several days in Jerusalem and
Bethlehem, delegates will meet with human rights representatives and peace
workers on both sides of the conflict. They will then travel to Hebron and
join in CPT's on-going work of violence-deterrence, accompaniment and
documentation. A public witness that confronts the structural violence of
the Occupation is also part of the experience. More information is available
at: http://www.cpt.org/delegations/delegations.php
Since it is as of yet, unclear whether the delegation will go ahead, please
hold on to your money if you are interested in supporting the trip
financially. I will send further details when the status of these plans is
clear.
Please consider joining us!
Thank you for your prayers and support.
Blessings in Christ
Charletta
